Understanding the Gospel

Basic overview

Experience freedom

God is the creator of all men.

Man is created in the image of God to live in a pure relationship with Him.

Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

God is too pure to tolerate evil.

Habakkuk 1:13 “Your eyes are too pure to look upon evil; You cannot tolerate wrong.”

Man sinned against God.

Genesis 6:5 “The Lord saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination o the thought of his heart was only evil all the time.”

Sin is a wrong committed against the holy character of God.

Psalm 51:4 “Against you and you only have I sinned and done what is wrong.”
Sin includes the wrongs we commit – these are sins of commission. Sin also includes the right things we should do – these are sins of omission.

All of us have sinned against God and are considered guilty.

Romans 3:22b-23 “There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Judgment – The judgment for sinning against God is eternal punishment in hell.

Judgment is a present reality for those separated from God.

Romans 1:18 “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness.”

Judgment is final and eternal for all who pass from this world. “For it is appointed unto man to death, and then to face the judgment.”

Jude 14b-15 “See the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

Mark 9:47-48 “And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where ‘their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.’”

God sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, to suffer in our place, and pay the full penalty for our sins.

1 John 2:2 “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”

2 Corinthians 5:21 “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

Jesus Christ was raised from the dead in order to give us everlasting life.

1 Corinthians 15:21-23 “For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also comes through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn: Christ, the first fruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.”

There is no other Savior but Jesus Christ.

Acts 4:12 “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”

How Can I Be Saved?

Faith

Faith is placing your trust in Jesus as your one and only Savior and Lord.

Repent

Repentance is a change of direction in mind and heart by turning to God, and turning away from your sins (Acts 3:19, 26) in genuine sorrow for having wronged God. (2 Corinthians 7:10)

Confess

Confession is acknowledging that you are a sinner, and confessing that Jesus Christ is your only Savior. (Psalm 51:4; Romans 10:9-10)

Commit

You must commit your entire life to Christ. (Mark 8:34, 35)
